Experience the Ahr Valley
Rugged cliffs and steep vineyards characterize the valley in northern Rhineland-Palatinate, home to some top red wines. Those looking for a varied getaway will find what they are looking for here, even after the tide has gone out. Because on just under 90 kilometers from the source to the mouth of the Rhine, the small Ahr Valley still offers magnificent landscapes, outstanding sights, exciting guided tours for guests and lively joie de vivre. Whether you come alone, as a couple or as a family - experience love at first sight when you get to know the Ahr Valley!
Scenic and diverse
The Ahr Valley is one of the most popular hiking regions in Germany. Even after the flood, hikers are offered a unique natural landscape with rolling hills, wild rocky crags and almost Mediterranean vineyards. Between vines and rocky gorges, between wide meadow plateaus and quiet forest paths, you can enjoy a wide view over the valley. Numerous hiking trails are available for you to get to know the Ahr valley.
Ahr cycle path under reconstruction
Cycling is one of the most popular leisure activities in the Ahr valley. However, the flood unfortunately destroyed large parts of the popular Ahr cycle path, which was a paradise especially for pleasure cyclists. Currently, the path is only passable again on the sections Blankenheim to Fuchshofen and Bad Neuenahr-Ahrweiler to Sinzig partly with detours. Plans for reconstruction are underway, but the creation of a new bicycle path will take some time.
Guided tours and guided hikes
Get to know the Ahr Valley first hand! With regular guest tours, guided hikes, adventure wine tastings and tours, you can immerse yourself in the history, culture, life and landscape of the Ahr Valley. Look over the shoulders of the winegrowers in the wine cellar, discover the secrets of the mighty Ahrweiler Ahr Gate or lace up your hiking boots for one of our themed hikes: Here, everyone is guaranteed to find his or her "daily seduction".
The once most secret building of the Federal Republic
The most secret structure of the Federal Republic of Germany was once hidden under the vineyards between Ahrweiler and Dernau in a tunnel 20 kilometers long. Its official name was "Alternative headquarters of the constitutional organs of the Federal Republic of Germany in crisis and war" - known as the "government bunker" for short. The documentation site has not been affected by the flood, so you can go on an exciting journey of discovery into the time of the East-West conflict.
A journey through time to the Romans in the Ahr Valley
Rather by chance, the remains of a Roman estate from the 2nd to 3rd century were discovered in Ahrweiler in 1980. A sensational find without equal north of the Alps! In addition to excellently preserved walls, the museum presents a bathing complex, a kitchen and completely preserved underfloor heating systems.
Outdoor adventure in the trees
Look forward to an adventure for the whole family. A unique climbing experience awaits you in one of the most beautiful forests in the Ahr Valley, directly on the Neuenahrer Berg: One of the longest rope slides in Germany and over 80 climbing elements provide plenty of adrenaline for young and old. New since 2021 is the panorama course with a magnificent view of Bad Neuenahr-Ahrweiler and the Ahr valley. The spacious paradise meadow right next to the park offers plenty of space for picnicking, playing and relaxing. Fortunately, the Waldkletterpark was not affected by the flood and is looking forward to your visit.
